Jamshedpur, June 15 : The southwest monsoon is expected to hit Jharkhand within the next 48 hours or so, the IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre declared on Wednesday afternoon.

Weathermen said the monsoon currents today advanced into some parts of Marathwada, entire Karnataka and Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu, some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, northwest and
westcentral Bay of Bengal .

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) was today passing through Diu, Nandurbar, Jalgano, Parbhani, Medak, Rentachintala, Machilipatnam, Balurghat and Supaul.

” Conditions are favorable for further advancement of monsoon into some more parts of Vidarbha and Telengana, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar during next two to three days, ” said Abhishek Anand, head of Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

He said there are no adverse conditions to scuttle the arrival of monsoon.

“The wind patterns are favourable. Pre-monsoon showers are expected in several other places from today,” he added.

The Ranchi Met Centre also issued an alert for thunderstorm and lightning and heavy rain in isolated places over Jharkhand during the next two days.

Met data revealed that Jamshedpur today recorded rainfall of around 65 mm while Ranchi received around 20 mm rain.

Normally, monsoon sets in the state between June 10 and 15.

A senior IMD official said an official declaration of onset on monsoon in the state will be made after the necessary criterias are fulfilled.
