Jamshedpur, July 3: The monsoon trough which had drifted towards the north revived and this was expected to result in a good spell of rain during the next few days.
IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre also issued an alert of heavy rain in southern Jharkhand covering the three districts of Kolhan- East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela- Kharsawan – on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Southwest monsoon has covered the entire country on July 2, against the normal date of July 8 (six days in advance). The monsoon trough passes through Bikaner, Alwar, Hardoi, Daltonganj, Shantiniketan and thence eastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal and extends upto 0.9 Km above mean sea level.
A cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh and its neighbourhood and extends upto 7.6 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north Odisha in one or two days.
Light to moderate rain occurred at most places especially in southern Jharkhand on Saturday. The state still needs a good spell of continuous rain which will help in reducing the deficit.
According to rain statistics, so far Jharkhand has actually received 115.2mm of rain against a normal of 206.5 mm, a deficit of 44 per cent.
