Jamshedpur, July 22: Monsoon activity was weak over Jharkhand and this would result in light to moderate rain at a few places today, said a weather bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

According to weathermen,  thundershowers and lightning is also expected at a few places today. No alerts have been issued for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast was today lying over south Odisha – north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation

extending upto 7.6 Km above the mean sea level.

It is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across south Odisha – north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next two days.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Jaisalmer,

Kota, Raisen, Chhindwara, Durg, center of the low pressure area over south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh and thence east-southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 Km above the mean sea level.

A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining

west central Bay of Bengal around July 24.

Met officials said that the subdued monsoon activity this year has pushed the state’s rain deficit figure to 46 per cent.

According to statistics,  against a normal of 403 mm, the state has so far received rainfall of 219 mm, resulting in 46 per cent rain deficit.
