Jamshedpur, May 26: The multi-crore Jugsalai railway overbridge project in Jamshedpur which was hanging for a long time is all set to complete by December this year.
Sources said the work for the new approach road has begun in full swing.
The construction work of the approach road had stopped midway a year ago due to its design issue which has been sorted out and construction work has resumed.
The design of the approach road has been revised and its cost has also escalated to around Rs 45 crores.
A senior railway official at Tatanagar who is monitoring the project said the railway has already constructed the overbridge and after the work of the approach road is completed by December, the Jugsalai railway overbridge will get operational for the public.
Construction of the railway overbridge at the Jugsalai level crossing was a contentious issue for the railway, administration, and the residents for the past two decades.
Concerned with frequent congestion and fatal mishaps at the level-crossing, the residents of Jugsalai and adjoining Bagbera localities had constituted an outfit – Sarvadaliya Sangharsh Samiti (SSS) cutting across party lines.
Following repeated agitation by the SSS, the railway in the year 2011 had taken the initiative to construct an overbridge in collaboration with the state road construction department (RCD) and decided to set up the railway overbridge for Rs 16 crores.
As there was an encroachment tangle for both the railway as well as the RCD, the project was delayed by over a decade and the project cost escalated to Rs 45 crore.
