Mumbai: At least four people have died following torrential rains in Mumbai that caused severe flooding and disrupted daily life across India’s financial capital. The city experienced relentless downpours on Wednesday, September 25, leading to road traffic jams, delayed local trains, and the closure of schools and colleges.

Here are the 10 latest updates on the Mumbai rains:

  1. Four Dead: Officials confirmed that four people lost their lives due to rain-related incidents, as the city grappled with severe weather.
  2. Red Alert Issued: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of continued heavy rainfall. As a result, the city administration declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Thursday, September 26.
  3. Train Services Restored: The Central Railways announced that local train services were restored at Andheri station on Thursday morning after water levels receded. Services were delayed on the main line by 3-4 minutes due to earlier disruptions.
  4. Harbour Line Services: Local trains on the Harbour Line resumed late Wednesday night after water receded between Govandi and Mankhurd. Trains are running with caution at a restricted speed of 25 kmph.
  5. Advisory for Commuters: Commuters have been advised to stay inside trains and avoid stepping onto waterlogged tracks. This follows several people walking on tracks at Chunabhatti Railway Station during the rain.
  6. Traffic Disruptions: Key areas like Kurla East, Nehru Nagar, and Chembur were waterlogged, resulting in major traffic snarls. Kurla Bridge witnessed heavy traffic congestion on Wednesday night.
  7. Bus Services Operational: Buses operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were back on the roads early Thursday morning, providing relief to stranded commuters.
  8. Flight Diversions: Due to heavy rains, 14 incoming flights were diverted from Mumbai Airport on Wednesday, with IndiGo accounting for nine of those flights.
  9. Landslide Incident: Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide at the Mumbra bypass around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, causing further travel disruptions.
  10. Rainfall Data: According to BMC data, the city received 87.79 mm of rainfall in the island city, 167.48 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 95.57 mm in the western suburbs between 5 pm and 10 pm on Wednesday.

Mumbai continues to face the aftereffects of the torrential rains, with authorities working to restore normalcy across the city.
