Dhanbad, July 10: On the occasion of National Occupational Health Day (NOHD) on Sunday evening, the Coalfield Branch organized a workshop in Dhanbad Club over ‘Occupational Illness, its Preventive and Curative aspects’, in which over 30 physicians attended and shed light on it.
Specialist doctors of different faculties have expressed concern over the increasing danger of occupational health diseases among employees and suggested the launching of preventive and curative measures sooner than later.
INOH Secretary Dr AK Chakraborty recounted the steps the association has initiated for checking and alerting the people. He said that workshops have been organized for specialist doctors to make early detection of diseases and suggest preventive measures.

Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, Principal of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), the chief speaker said that the Dhanbad region is a colliery dominant area where coal dust affects lungs and other organs of the body at great length. While suggesting the need for immediate launching of preventive measures and an awareness campaign about it, he explained that coal workers’ Pneumoconiosis, commonly known as black lung disease, occurs when dust is inhaled. Over time, continued exposure to coal dust causes scarring in the lungs.
Dr AK Singh, Coalfield Dhanbad Chapter President of INOH, said that the association is serious about rescuing the professionals from occupational health hazards and will hold a series of programs in this regard with the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), around the years for prevention and curing of affected people. He said that his association would implement the suggestions given by the experts in the workshop.
ENT surgeon Dr Sujit Kumar spoke on noise-induced hearing loss as an occupational hazard. Dr Yash Singh spoke on occupational-related cervical spondylosis as a hazard.
