Ranchi, Aug.17: Divers of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) today recovered two bodies from Kanchi River Remix Fall under Maranghada police station area of Khunti district, about 40km from the Jharkhand capital.
The deceased were identified as Denis Toppo (22), a resident of Chainpur under Gumla district. He had drowned on August 15 and Amber Khoya (20), a resident of Pokhartoli under Doranda police station area of Ranchi. He had drowned on August 16.
Asked how come police sought the help of NDRF late while the first drowning took place on August 15 and the second drowning on the other day, Superintendent of Police of Khunti district, Ashutosh Shekhar, said: “After the first incident, an attempt was made with the help of local divers to recover the body on August 15 and August 16. On August 16 when local divers made an unsuccessful attempt and police sought help from NDRF, yet another incident of drowning took place.”
Saroj Kumar, who led the NDRF team, said it was getting around 10.30am when the recovery took place. Both the bodies had got trapped under a rock. “It took two hours for our team to recover the bodies,” Kumar said.
SP Shekhar said both had come for a picnic and drowned while taking bath.
