Jerusalem: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply criticized the Australian government following a deadly shooting at a Jewish celebration in Sydney that left 11 people dead. In a public address, he accused Canberra of contributing to rising antisemitism by recognizing Palestinian statehood earlier this year.
Netanyahu Says Australia’s Policy “Poured Oil on the Fire”
Netanyahu referenced a letter he sent to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in August, warning that the decision to back Palestinian statehood would intensify antisemitic sentiment. “Three months ago I wrote to the Australian prime minister that your policy is pouring oil on the fire of antisemitism,” he said, addressing supporters in southern Israel.

The Israeli leader condemned the Sydney shooting and emphasized the responsibility of world leaders to act decisively against hate. “Antisemitism is a cancer that spreads when leaders are silent and do not act,” he said.
