Amsterdam, April 19: Ryan Campbell, the head coach of the Netherlands men’s team and a former Australia wicketkeeper, has been rushed to an ICU in London after having a major heart attack.
The 50-year-old experienced chest pains and difficulties breathing while out with his family on Saturday, according to the ICC website.
As of Sunday night, he was still comatose in hospital, according to a Perth journalist and Campbell family friend, but he was making attempts to breathe on his own.
Campbell had recently returned to Europe after a tour of New Zealand with the Dutch squad, and had visited friends and extended family in his hometown of Perth just a week before.
Notably in January 2017, Campbell was named coach of the Netherlands. He had previously represented both Australia and Hong Kong as a footballer. In 2016, he made his debut for Hong Kong in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, becoming the oldest player to do so aged 44 years and 30 days.
