New Jharkhand excise minister bans liquor on Kanwariya Path

Ranchi, July 5: On her first working day, state excise and prohibition minister Baby Devi imposed a ban on sale of liquor along Kanwariya Path from Sultanganj to Deoghar till August 31.

She informed her decision through a tweet.

“My first working day…. There will be a ban on the sale of any type of liquor in the world-class Shravani fair of Deoghar and on the Kanwariya Path till Vaidyanath Temple. Liquor shops will remain closed. Keeping in mind the devotees, especially my sisters and daughters, I have taken this decision,” her tweet reads.

Devi is widow of former excise and prohibition minister Jagarnath Mahto. Governor C.P.Radhakrishnan administered her oath of office and secrecy on July 3 (Asadh Purnima) at Raj Bhawan amid presence of JMM supremo Shibu Soren and chief minister Hemant Soren besides other ministers and government officials.
