Daltonganj, May 21: Lady cops handling Woman Help Desk got new scooty and tablet in Palamu. The scooty and tablet have been bought with the Nirbhaya Fund which is overseen by the state CID.

Last year, the Additional Director General of Police (CID) ensured the setting up of a Woman Help Desk in as many as 300 police stations in Jharkhand.

Palamu SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha said we have a Woman Help Desk in 15 police stations here. Three of these police stations have women and child protection thana as well.

SP said each of the total of 15 police stations’ Woman Help Desk has been given one scooty and one tablet. This has been given to further ease the works of the lady cops while dealing with the complaints of women.

Sub Divisional Police Officer Surjit Kumar said when scooty and tablet were around, a woman came there complaining about how some boys tease her daughter in the neighbourhood. A lady cop ready with the scooty made no delay in helping the mother.

However, there occurred an episode with a married woman having a girl child in her lap who had no end of harassment at the hands of the police in Daltonganj!

The woman begging for anonymity told lagatar24.com some days ago that she first went to the cyber police station in Daltonganj to seek help as she had found her husband with another woman on a Facebook post.

The woman said she had thought the cyber police station in Daltonganj would help her to trace and track her husband but she was curtly asked to visit town thana Daltonganj as her case would be handled there.

The woman said she went to the town thana and narrated her woes. Here she was asked to visit Mahila thana.

At Mahila thana, she had a hell of a time. at first, she was lectured for not pursuing her husband who spends time with another woman. And so she should explore new avenues for her and her girl child.

The woman said when she contested the uncalled-for advice from the Mahila thana, she was then bluntly asked to go to the town thana and she again went there. This time she said, she was heard. Despite all these ordeals, she had a word of appreciation for the officer in charge of the town police station.

Sources said this is not the case in any isolation. Women having complaints about marital discord, family disputes, minor assault, etc are made to hover between the Mahila thana and the town thana.  Incidentally, both the thanas are nearby nevertheless the way a harassed woman is further harassed by lady cops is painful.
