Dhanbad, Dec 31: Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh got permission today to take admission on 100 MBBS seats in the current academic session 2021-22.
Director of Medical Education of state Dr Arun Kumar said that National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted both the medical colleges of Jharkhand one year permission to take admission in the institutions in 2021-22 sessions.
The third newly set up Dumka Medical College Hospital had already got the permission in October.
In 2020, NMC had banned admission in these medical colleges just after one year of opening (in 2019) due to a shortage of faculty members and required infrastructure for 100 MBBS seats.
“Now the state would get 200 doctors every year as we have finally received the permission. Next session, the Medical Rating Board of National Medical Commission would assess these medical colleges and decide on continuing the 100 MBBS seats admission,” said Dr Arun Kumar.
Both Palamu Medical College Hospital Principal Dr Shailendra Kumar and Hazaribagh Medical College Hospital Principal Dr SK Singh admitted have received the letter today from NMC regarding admission in current academic sessions.
“Generally such permission comes from NMC through mail but interestingly this time, a letter has come by post today. The letter was issued on December 24 and it reached today,” said Dr Shailendra Kumar, Principal of Hazaribagh Medical College.
Dr Kumar said he is now waiting for the counseling of candidates for admission. The JPSC is yet to announce a date for counselling.
A senior officer of the state health department said that NMC has granted permission to both the medical colleges of Jharkhand on the basis of an affidavit filed by the state government one week ago to fulfil all deficiencies including faculty members and infrastructure pointed out by NMC inspectors by February 2022 in both the institutions.
