Ranchi, Jan.22: Director Asok R Nath’s silent lesbian drama titled Holy Wound has landed into controversy in Jharkhand.

Two nuns have filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court saying the film hurts religious feelings and has been produced in violation of the Cinematograph Act.

The nuns include Sithara Joy and Lily George, a high court source informed, saying the petition was filed on Friday.

“In the petition, Film Censor Board, Information and Broadcasting Ministry besides film producers have been made parties. The petitioner has objected to the kissing scene in the movie. In the scene, an artist dressed like a nun is shown being kissed. The petitioner contended that such a scene hurts the religious sentiments of Christians,” the court source informed, saying the leading lawyer of the petition is Shubhasis Soren.

Contacted Soren for his comment, he refused to comment saying that ‘the matter is subjudice before the court.’ Court sources close to nuns said the drama is yet to be released and the petition has been filed on the basis of a trailer that was released recently.

As per the makers, the film aims to normalise same-sex relationships and adopts a raw visual approach to convey the true love of two women.

Holy Wound centers on the two characters who have been in love since childhood and reunite years later after a brief separation.

Janaki Sudheer, Amrita and Sabu Praudeen play the lead roles. The script has been written by Paul Wiclif with Unni Madavoor cranking the camera. Vipin Mannoor handled the editing. Ronnie Raphael worked on the background score.

Holy Wound was filmed in and around Kollam. Asok previously directed Mizhikal Sakshi and a segment of the Malayalam anthology, Crossroad.
