Dumka, Oct 1: Furious over the alleged thrashing of a shopkeeper by the officer-in-charge (OC) of Karmatand police station of Jamtara district Roshan Kumar, fellow shopkeepers and locals blocked the main road near Ganpat Chowk on Friday demanding action against the ‘errant’ cop.

According to an eyewitness account, the OC in question thrashed the shopkeeper namely Manoj Rawani following a verbal altercation on the issue of a bike that was parked outside the latter’s shop.

The conduct of the man in uniform has been recently posted at the Karmatand police station of the district otherwise being already infamous for being the hub of cybercriminals, fellow shopkeepers and other residents of the locality resorted to take to the agitational recourse and blocked the road to mark their protest.

It was only after the Sarath BJP MLA Randhir Singh and DSP Jagdish Prasad assuaged the crowd by assuring suitable action against the OC Roshan Kumar that the road blockade was removed after 4 hours.

“The SP has himself taken cognizance of the conduct of the officer-in-charge and suitable action against him is on the anvil,” the DSP told reporters, adding the protesters were given 7 days’ deadline for the same.

“The police administration has given seven days’ deadline to take action against the officer-in-charge failing which I will myself apprise the chief minister and the DGP about the anti-public conduct of the officer-in-charge,” the BJP MLA and former minister Randhir Singh said.

Meanwhile, Jamtara SP Deepak Kumar Sinha did not take the call when attempted to have his stand over the issue.
