New Delhi, Aug 29: Regarding the hearing of cases at the Supreme Court on non-miscellaneous days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays), Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has made a significant adjustment.

The Supreme Court will begin hearing regular cases in the morning session (10.30 am to 1 pm) beginning on August 30 and miscellaneous and after notice cases in the afternoon session (2 pm to 4 pm).

The causelist for Tuesday reflects this, stating that all Benches will start their Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the regular hearing cases list until lunch before moving on to miscellaneous matters at 2pm.

“Regular hearing matters will be listed before this court and will be taken up in the first half of the day i.e. 10.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. in the second half, division bench will re-assemble to take up miscellaneous and after notice matters,” the causelist said.

Prior to now, it was customary to address miscellaneous issues first before moving on to the regular hearing. Due to a lack of time, this also meant that the normal list would not be utilised frequently.

During his 74-day term as chief justice, CJI Lalit said he will concentrate on three areas: the listing of cases, the mentioning of urgent concerns, and the Constitution benches.

He also said that mentioning of cases in Courtroom No. 1 of the Supreme Court will begin after a few days.
