Ranchi: In a symposium organized by the Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), Jharkhand unit, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Ranchi, the topic of “One Nation, One Election” was discussed at length at the Rotary Club Auditorium in Ranchi. Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, emphasized the potential of simultaneous elections to accelerate the holistic development of the country, citing significant savings in economic resources and administrative time. He urged both the ruling party and the opposition to engage in serious and constructive deliberation on the subject.
Highlighting the staggering expenses incurred during elections, Sanjay Seth stated that nearly Rs 1 lakh crore was spent during the 2024 general elections. He argued that such expenditure hinders developmental projects and slows down government schemes. According to him, the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for 1,012 days over a five-year period significantly disrupts governance. He asserted that synchronizing elections across the country would free up more time and resources for uninterrupted development.
Anuj Kumar Sinha, a guest of honor at the event, stressed the need to de-politicize the discourse around One Nation, One Election. He advocated for thoughtful dialogue and consensus-building, suggesting that synchronized elections would streamline administrative efficiency and minimize disruption to daily activities.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maroo echoed these sentiments, stating that national issues demand unity and collective action. He said a coordinated electoral process would benefit the entire population of 1.4 billion by ensuring consistent governance.
FANS President Pawan Bajaj supported the initiative, stating that One Nation, One Election is vital for the economic and democratic health of the country. The event was moderated by Rotary Club Secretary Dr. Khyati Munjal, and a vote of thanks was delivered by Aditya Malhotra.
