Ranchi, June 2: Padma Shri awardee Dr Kameshwar Prasad, who took charge as the director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on the foundation day of Jharkhand in 2020, expressed his regret today for not stopping private practice by RIMS doctors.
He shared his feeling during a programme organized to give him farewell by the institute after extending 929 days’ service including Covid period.
“I had chosen this institute to render the service I had studied here. I only regret that I could not stop the private practice of the doctors of my hospital,” he said heavy heartedly.
Earlier he counted his achievements.
“When I came here, there was no CT scan here. Now there are two world class CT scan machines here. Advanced machines like cath lab, Covas machine were also installed. I didn’t do anything against the rules. I am satisfied with the rims,” he said.
Dr Prasad, on the occasion, also shared his early life at RIMS: “On November 13, 1972, I was enrolled as a student in the then RMCH. After doing MBBS in 1979, I did my MD Medicine from AIIMS between 1980-83,” he recalled.
Dr. Mini Rani Akhori, who studied with Dr. Kameshwar, on the occasion, shared old memories and said that he was also a good singer and used to hum classical songs during Saraswati Puja in the college campus.
Health Minister Banna Gupta, on the occasion, said that while working there are sweet and sour experiences and will continue to happen.
“I wish Dr. Kameshwar Prasad a bright future. Wherever he goes, he will bring laurels to Jharkhand. Even if big industrialists can provide employment, but if anyone can save them from a dying state, then it is a doctor,” he said.
Additional Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Singh said that Dr. Kameshwar made every possible effort to improve RIMS.
“Whether it is research or hospital arrangements, he has fulfilled his responsibility. During the Corona period, every person acted promptly. Now the new director will have to take RIMS forward with his vision. You have to understand your responsibility. The RIMS has no shortage of money, but it has to be taken forward by preparing a framework. There is a challenge before the incoming director to plan how to strengthen the RIMS system,” he said.
Kanke MLA Samri Lal requested Dr. Prasad to get RIMS benefitted by his experience in the future.
Health minister Gupta restrained dean (examination) Dr Manoj from sharing his feeling on the occasion as he started saying no one has worked on promotion and no director could complete his tenure. “Today is not the day to say all this,” the minister said.
Additional Secretary Alok Trivedi, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr. Hirendra Birua, Dean RIMS Dr. Vidyapati along with doctors and staff of RIMS were present in the farewell ceremony.
Dr Prasad’s regret had also reflected on Thursday when he told a media person in an exclusive interview that RIMS doctors worry more about their nursing homes instead of their institution where they serve and suggested vigilance of the same standard which was done during the Mayawati government in UP. He had opined that banning private practice of RIMS doctors is a must to bring RIMS in top 50 medical institutions of the country.
