Daltonganj, Nov 21: A freak incident occurred in the premise of the Chainpur police station in Palamu on Sunday afternoon. A chowkidar Nandu Manjhi was deeply hurt in the premise. He has injuries in hand, thigh and chest. One more chowkidar Phekan Manjhi sustained lesser injury. The injured chowkidars were rushed to the MMCH Daltonganj. But none of any serious proportion said the MMCH Daltonganj source.
Officer in charge of the Chainpur police station Uday Kr Gupta said every Sunday our chowkidars do saaf safai in the premise of the police station. Today they were doing the same on the right side of the temple built in the premise. The chowkidars had collected the dry leaves, grasses and other waste there and set them afire when a loud burst occurred and Nandu Manjhi and Phekan standing close to him got hurt.
Gupta said they believed some old bottles or tyres got burst when the dry leaves grasses and other solid waste were put on fire.
Dr Jaywant Lakra the attending doctor in the government MMCH Daltonganj said the injuries are not of the splinter.
“We found pieces of tiles in the hand of Nandu Manjhi, something burst and its flying thing got into the body of the chowkidar. Nandu is conscious and stable; he has been given a few stitches.” informed Dr Lakra.
Asked if he suspected injury by the splinter as then it would mean any crude bomb etc to which Dr Lakra said it does not look so as our compounder has discovered pieces of tiles in embedded in his hand.

He said the injured chowkidar would be x rayed to further ascertain if the injuries are due to the splinter which on eye estimation and discovery of pieces of tiles belie it right now.
SP Palamu Chandan Kr Sinha he has ordered a thorough investigation into the episode.
Sources said as the Maoists’ bandh was a day earlier November 20 and this burst a day after and that too in the premise of the police station Chainpur many speculations are rife and ripe.
