Daltonganj, July 5: 333 suspected cases of leprosy were reported on the completion of the fourth day of the 14-day-long leprosy case detection campaign launched in Palamu.
One health team is supposed to survey 25 households a day in the rural areas. The Sahiyas are doing a tremendous job. The leprosy case detection campaign teams are working sincerely and the cooperation of the households is also appreciable.
Atul Prakash, a resident of Chainpur, said the Coronavirus pandemic has made people speak up about their ailments which they used to hide before.
The growing number of suspected cases of leprosy in Palamu is an indication that those having symptoms are coming forward to talk about them to the visiting health team without bothering about any social stigma that is attached to it.
District Leprosy Officer Dr Anil Kumar Srivastav said, “Our teams have detected 333 suspected cases of leprosy in four days only which call for expert diagnosis by the doctors.”
“Our teams have been asking the suspected cases of leprosy to visit the doctor in the nearest government health hub to have a final diagnosis of it,” he added.
If this 333 figure is spread out for 4 days then it comes to a little over 80 cases a day on average.
On the first day of the leprosy case detection campaign, launched on July 4, 67 cases of suspected leprosy were found in Palamu.
