Daltonganj, June 12: A 20-year-old tea seller identified as Chhotu Kumar was shot to death at his tea stall located in the Lesliganj market around 1 am on Monday.
The officer in charge of the Lesliganj police station Gautam Roy has confirmed the incident.
The police officer said the deceased used to sleep at night in his tea stall itself where in the day he used to sell tea.
On the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Chhotu Kumar had drinks with a couple of acquaintances of him in the tea stall.
The police have detained one person who had had drinks with the deceased. The detainee is proving a hard nut to crack by the police as he is tight-lipped as to how Chhotu got bumped off, said Gautam Roy.
The deceased had a firearm injury in his chest. Sources said it was a single-shot injury that proved fatal.
The police officer said it could be an accidental shot too but we are waiting for the post-mortem report on this case. The post-mortem was conducted at the MMCH Daltonganj today.
He said in the same vein it could be a cold-blooded murder too as firearms injury in the chest means the killer does not want to give his victim any chance to die another day. Police have begun their investigation.
About the enmity angle, Gautam Roy said the family of the deceased has denied any enmity of Chhotu Kumar with anyone.
