New Delhi, Oct 22: Parliament’s month-long winter session is expected to begin in the fourth week of November, following all COVID-19 protocols, said the Parliamentary sources on Friday. They claimed the session, which is expected to last roughly 20 sittings, would end before Christmas.
The winter session of Parliament was cancelled last year as a result of the pandemic, and all subsequent sessions — Budget and Monsoon — were shortened as a result of Covid.
No formal decision has been made yet but the sources say that the session could start on November 29 and end around December 23.
Despite the fact that both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will be in session at the same time, the members will adhere to social distance norms.
During the first few sessions, both Houses used to meet at different times to ensure that there were not too many people inside the Parliament compound.
Those entering the compound and the main Parliament building during the Winter session will be required to wear masks at all times and may be subjected to a Covid test.
The winter session of the parliament is significant since it will take place just months before assembly elections in five states, including strategically critical Uttar Pradesh, which is considered a semi-finalist for the general elections in 2024.
