Ranchi, Mar 13: As many as 3 lakh people of the state are suffering due to non-payment of their money deposited in the different non-banking financial institutions where the majority of shares remained with Sahara India Pariwar.
The Finance Department (Government of Jharkhand) has issued a helpline number for money and other complaints in Sahara India. Apart from Sahara, complaints against other non-banking companies and cooperative societies can also be lodged on this helpline. The department has issued a police helpline number 112 for this. The depositors who have a complaint, when they register the complaint, then after that the Finance Department will help in its investigation and diagnosis in collaboration with the CID (Economic Offenses Wing, Jharkhand).
A lady who had reached the Sahara India office situated in Ratu Road to get her money back said that she has been reaching the office for her money for the last one year. “The money which I had invested matured in March 2021 but I am unable to get my money back. The office managers do not pick up the call also and when we come to the office, the office personnel say that sir is not available now and gives some random dates to come and take the money.”
Another person who had reached the office for the same reason said that he was in a dire need of the money during the third wave of the corona, but they denied giving the money. “We have to roam around the office to get our own money back. If they do not want to pay the interest capitalised on the amount, then pay us only the principal amount.”
On March 10, in the budget session of the Legislative assembly, MLA Naveen Jaiswal had said that about 2500 crore people of Jharkhand were trapped in non-banking companies. The state government should issue a helpline number. This will help to know whose money is trapped. The life of 60 thousand people working in the Sahara has become difficult. The situation has become such that someone can die.
In the House, Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon had agreed that it is true that the money of the people of the village countryside is trapped in Sahara. “A letter has been sent by the Finance Department to SEBI and Sahara chief. Whatever complaint is being received against Sahara, the government is looking into it. The department will make every effort to rectify this.”
