Daltonganj, July 19: The public, in general, have been asked afresh to be on guard against the prowling leopard in the Mahuadanr range of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR).
An adult leopard has killed a calf of a poor farmer, Albanos Oraon, of the village Pakardeeh under the Drup panchayat in the Mahuadanr range.
Mahuadanr Range Officer Brinda Pandey said we have asked the affected calf owner Albanos Oraon to file a petition for the compensation for loss of the cattle.
It’s Rs 4,000 for a small domestic cattle while for a big domestic cattle it is Rs 15,000.
Pandey said no one should be unwise to visit the interiors of the jungles alone and at bad hours like night or too early in the morning as at any corner of the jungle there may be a leopard lurking around.
Leopards have earned a bad name here when it had killed three humans in the Garhwa district and two humans in the Latehar district forcing the authorities to requisition the services of the ace man-animal conflict expert Nawab Shafath Ali Khan of Hyderabad in the recent past.
