New Delhi, May 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed sorrow over the deaths caused by the road accident in Jammu and declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for each of the deceased’s next of kin and Rs 50 thousand for those who suffered injuries.
On the national highway between Jammu and Srinagar on Tuesday morning, a bus plunged into a deep gorge, killing at least 10 people and injuring about 55 others.
“Expressing grief on the bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir, PM @narendramodi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” PMO tweeted.

The event occurred near Jhajjar Kotli, which is around 15 kilometres from Katra in the Jammu district, while the bus was travelling from Amritsar to Katra, according to officials.
All of the injured were taken to the hospital and are receiving treatment, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kohli of Jammu on Tuesday.
Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha all sent their sympathies.
