Bratislava: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, from France as part of the second and significant leg of his European tour, receiving a grand welcome and marking the first visit by any Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia gained independence in 1993. PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and also meet President Peter Pellegrini.
Modi-Macron Meeting in Nice
Ahead of the Slovakia visit, PM Modi visited Villa Kerylos in Nice on Sunday alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, where the two leaders held bilateral talks covering innovation, trade and investment, sustainability, security, and culture.
Macron Hails ‘Exceptional Strength’ of France-India Partnership
President Macron posted on X expressing happiness at welcoming his dear friend Narendra Modi, noting that this seventh visit — spanning Nice to the G7 summit in Evian and Paris’s VivaTech — reflects the exceptional strength of the France-India partnership. He said the two countries are beginning a new chapter focused on talent, investment, and concrete solutions for their people.
MEA Highlights Outcomes Across Multiple Sectors
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the bilateral talks marked another step in strengthening the India-France partnership, with PM Modi and President Macron reviewing progress in the India-France Strategic Partnership. According to the MEA, the discussions yielded outcomes across innovation and AI, science and space, startups and fintech, trade and infrastructure, mobility, and health.
G7 Summit and Trump Meeting to Follow
PM Modi began his six-day foreign tour with a stop in Nice, France, before proceeding to Slovakia. From Bratislava, he will travel to Paris, and on June 16-17 will attend the G7 Summit in Evian, France, where he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump.
