Kolkata, July 10: Idris Ali, a member of the Trinamool Congress, claimed on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would share the same fate as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka.
Notably on Saturday, protestors calling for his resignation stormed the facility, forcing Gotabaya Rajapaksa to leave.
Ali made his comment in response to Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, being declined an invitation to the Sealdah metro station’s opening ceremony in Kolkata. On July 11, the project will be officially opened by union minister Smriti Irani.
Ali claimed that it was unfair to not invite Mamata Banerjee because she was the one who started the project while she was the railway minister. The TMC was incensed that no state dignitaries had been invited to the inaugural function.
At an earlier event at the Victoria Memorial, Mamata Banerjee was not permitted to participate. The event was presided over by home minister Amit Shah. In response to the slight, the TMC claimed that the central government was engaging in polarising politics.
The TMC, however, was accused by the BJP of beginning the custom of refusing to invite BJP MLAs and MPs to state government events.
