New Delhi, Jan 8: The Punjab government has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) about the security breach that occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur.

The Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) blamed his Ferozepur counterpart for the failure in PM Modi’s protection, according to the report.

The prime minister’s protection was entrusted to Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Maluja and five other officers during his visit to Punjab on January 5. The MHA gave Maluja a show-cause notice on Friday.

Maluja claimed in the Punjab government’s report to the MHA that he gave the PM’s convoy safe passage till it reached his domain, and blamed Ferozepur SSP Harman Hans for the security breakdown.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Krantikari) alleged on Thursday that SSP Harman Hans had informed the protesting farmers that PM Modi’s cavalcade will pass through that route. They were told to clear the highway near the flyover where the convoy had been stalled for about 20 minutes, but the demonstrators believed the SSP was lying about the convoy’s route.

The chronology of events leading up to the incident was also detailed in the report, which said that the farmers’ protest was ‘sudden.’ According to the report, a FIR has been filed in the case, and a two-member panel has been formed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stopped on a flyover in Punjab for about 20 minutes on Wednesday due to a farmer protest. A huge security breach occurred when the cavalcade became trapped and private cars were seen approaching. Because of the gap, PM Modi returned to Bathinda’s airport.
