Merced County, Oct 3: The four members of an Indian-origin Sikh family who were found dead in the USA on Wednesday were taken at gunpoint from a trucking firm in Central California on Monday, according to chilling CCTV footage provided by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Manuel Salgado (48) was taken into custody and was in critical condition after he attempted to commit suicide, according to police. He was identified as a “person of interest” in the abduction of the four-member Sikh family. After using one of the victim’s ATM cards, he was apprehended.
Jasleen Kaur (27) her husband Jasdeep Singh (36) their eight-month-old daughter Aruhi Deri, and her brother-in-law Amandeep Singh (39) were kidnapped on Monday morning from a recently formed trucking company.
The suspect can be seen inspecting the property in the police video before chatting to one of the males. Later, he is seen forcing the men into the pickup truck’s back seat with their hands tied behind their backs.
The suspect then took Jasdeep Singh, who was carrying the infant, into the vehicle before leaving the trailer that served as his office.
Despite the fact that all of their relatives were wearing jewellery, the family claimed that nothing had been taken from the trucking company. An ATM card belonging to one of the victims was used following the theft in Atwater, a city about 9 miles north of Merced, according to Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke.
