Jamshedpur, May 20: Sub-inspector Vimal Kumar who is posted at Bodam thana in East Singhbhum district has been booked in a rape case.
The sub-inspector in question had raped a widow having confined her in a residential flat at Old Purulia locality under Azadnagar thana area in Mango in April last year.
The victim had met senior SP, Prabhat Kumar and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Mahila thana against the sub-inspector seeking justice. But her plea was entertained after she had filed a complaint with the court.
The Azadnagar police registered the case on the basis of the court’s directive.
“We have registered a case of rape against sub-inspector Vimal Kumar following a court directive. Necessary action will follow against the accused as per the law, ” said Azadnagar thana OC, Rakesh Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.
A resident of Mirudih village in Gamharia, the victim who used to work as a maid under a caterer had gone to work at a marriage reception at Mango on April 16, 2022. She was allegedly taken by the sub-inspector to a vacant flat along the Old Purulia Road where she was raped by the accused.
According to the complaint, the accused had kept the victim in the house three-day-long during which he kept on raping her. Finally, he took out the victim from the flat and dropped her at Jugsalai.
When the victim reached home, her family members suspected foul play and pressed her what had gone wrong with her. She had revealed everything after being compelled by family members, but they had kept mum knowing about the involvement of a police officer.
The matter assumed momentum after the victim who had already conceived due to the rape gave birth to a baby on December 1,2022. Then only she had approached the senior SP, Mahila thana and finally to the court of law for the justice.
Significantly, after the matter came to the limelight, the accused sub-inspector had allegedly threatened the victim with dire consequences by going over to her house in Gamharia.
