Explaining the unusual title of this novel, she says in the foreword to the novel – “…just as the people of Bihar are called Biharis and the people of India as Indians, so the people of Barisal are called regional people here. The language is called Borishilla. The main character of the novel is Keshto, Barisal. That’s why she can say – I am Borishilla.”
In this novel, the historical facts of Bangladesh from 1948 to 1971, the incidents of atrocities on Bangladeshi people by the Pakistani government and the struggle tales of the liberation army have been put into the narrative thread.
Maji was earlier given the opportunity to contest the assembly election in 2014 and 2019 from the Ranchi assembly constituency. Her husband Subdodh Maji has a long association with JMM chief Shibu Soren.
