Dumka, Nov.24: The probe committee looking into the death of a pregnant woman in Shikaripara, who died purportedly after receiving the first dose of Covid vaccination, has concluded that she died of a chest infection and respiratory sickness.

The civil surgeon (CS) of Dumka, Bachha Prasad Singh, had constituted a probe committee headed by the Acting Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Dr A M Soren, following a complaint by Jutin Murmu of Kolaibadi village under Shikaripara police station of the district. Jutin alleged that his eight months pregnant woman along with the fetus died hours after getting vaccinated against Covid-19.

The complaint was submitted by Jutin to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Shikaripara on November 17, the next day of the women getting vaccinated by the medical staff at a camp at a Customer Service Centre (CSC). Jutin had demanded stern action against them along with a compensation.

The complaint said that the deceased pregnant lady was rushed to the Shikaripara based community health centre after her condition deteriorated the previous night from where she was referred to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) but in vain.

“The probe committee has submitted its report today suggesting that the death of the pregnant women was actually caused by acute chest infection and respiratory problem,” the CS said.

He further said that had there been any issue with the Covid vaccination, others having also taken the jab from the same vile of Covishield would have also developed complications of some kind or the other.
