Ranchi, May 24: President Droupadi Murmu while inaugurating the biggest high court campus of the country in the Jharkhand capital today asked judges, lawyers and government to find a way to ensure justice to those poor who are not getting the same despite a court’s order.
“The happiness of a poor litigant who rejoices the victory in a court of law after a long battle is often short-lived as he/she often doesn’t get what was ordered by a court,” she pointed out. “Jayein to kahan jayein (Where to go? He/she feels devastated and helpless,” she said.
The President said that she often used to get complaints from the poor regarding the problem.
She said that there is a system of filing contempt cases but the poor having experience of struggling for years to get justice are afraid of doing so.
Sharing her personal experience, the President said when she was associated with a family counselling centre she used to revisit those families benefitted by the counselling support to ensure their current status and some initiative like this should also be planned to ensure that the poor who get justice from court after long legal fight may not deprive of their justice due to any other reason.
As she shared her feeling, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India Justice D.Y Chandrachud, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal besides several judges of high courts were present.
Earlier, the president talked about introducing local languages in the judiciary to get the judicial system connected with common people, saying this requires most in Jharkhand due to its linguistic variety.
Chief Justice of India D.Y Chandrachud addressed the inaugural function in Hindi. Appreciating this, the president said that it pleased her and commented that if the chief justice of India uses Hindi other judges in the country will not hesitate to follow him.
Talking about the new high court building she said it was required to effectively dispense justice. Explaining why she said the old high court building at Doranda was an extended form of circuit bench of Patna High Court established in 1972. She said the new building will enable judges and lawyers to work for a longer period and inspire other people to develop eco-friendly buildings.
