President Droupadi Murmu to hold dialogue with over 25,000 tribal women in Khunti tomorrow

Ranchi, May 24: President Droupadi Murmu will hold an interactive dialogue with over 25,000 tribal women members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Khunti, the birth place of tribal icons, Birsa Munda and Jaipal Singh, tomorrow at Birsa Munda College Stadium, Khunti, around 40 km from here.

The President will also visit the live demo booths and stalls on this occasion.

The conference has been organised by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Khunti MP Arjun Munda chaired a review meeting today to assess the preparedness of the district administration, TRIFED and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs officials for the visit of the President to Khunti.

He said that the objective of the event is to educate women entrepreneurs about forests, their rights, benefits of VDVK, financing and possible routes to market and economies of scale.

“The dialogue aims to focus on livelihood and health for tribal women in self-help groups across the state,” he added.

The proramme will also be attended by CP Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, and Renuka Singh Saruta, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs among others.

During the event, several booths have been set up displaying diverse tribal crafts as well as live demonstrations of tribal arts and crafts by TRIFED, NSTFDC and other Ministries/Departments of Central/State Government.

Exhibits featured at the event will include the following:

  1. Craft wise display of tribal products: This display will be presented at 20 stalls for which 20 suppliers from the states of Jharkhand and Bihar and VDVK have been invited to participate with their products. It will include various craft wise stalls besides showcasing tribal products from across the country.
  2. Craft Demonstration: Arrangement of craft demonstrations for textiles, bamboo baskets, organic Kharsawan haldi making, Yoga mat making, Sabai grass products making, pearl farming demo, Sohrai painting, Musical Instrument Making and Lac Jewellery Making.
  3. Promotion of lac cultivation by Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG), stalls of NSTFDC, NSIC, NIESBUD, Skill Sector Council (FICSI), Department of Posts and Ministry of MSME.
  4. Health Corner: To make health a priority, Health Corner will be organized to create awareness on genetic or lifestyle diseases prevalent in tribal communities like sickle cell anaemia, tuberculosis, malaria and malnutrition etc. and also screening for SCD will be held After screening, affected individuals will receive diagnosis, counseling and information about the disease and its management.
