New Delhi, Jan 18: A Qantas Airways QAN.AX flight from New Zealand landed safely at Sydney airport on Wednesday after it had issued a distress signal.
The Boeing 737 experienced an issue with one of its two engines about an hour from Sydney, Qantas told Australian Broadcasting Corp. in a statement.

A Qantas spokesperson, before the aircraft’s landing said the Boeing BA.N 737-800 jet from Auckland had issued a ‘mayday’ call while flying over water an hour from its destination of Sydney.
Prior to landing, the mayday signal, which denotes serious and immediate danger, was dropped to ‘Possible Assistance Needed,’ the official continued.

When the plane landed in Sydney at around 3.30 p.m. local time, emergency personnel were waiting for it. The paramedics from New South Wales Ambulance verified that they reacted to the call.
Qantas said it would share more information once the aircraft had been assessed by its engineers.
