Ranchi, Feb. 18: Veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu C P Radhakrishnan (65) on Saturday took oath of office as the 11th Governor of Jharkhand.
Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Aparesh Kumar Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at 11.40 AM during a programme held at Birsa Mandap of the Raj Bhavan. He took the oath in English.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his cabinet ministers namely Joba Manjhi, Badal Patralekh, Alamgir Alam, BJP MP Sanjay Seth and others.
Radhakrishnan is a two-time BJP MP from Coimbatore and he succeeded Ramesh Bais, who served as the Governor of Jharkhand since July 2021. Ramesh Bais has been sent as the Governor of Maharashtra. Radhakrishnan also served as president of the Tamil Nadu state unit of the BJP.
Before taking oath, Radhakrishnan offered floral tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He was accompanied by his wife, other family members, and his principal secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that the government has a lot of expectations from the new governor.
Later on, talking to the media, the governor said that the development of Jharkhand will be his first priority. He said that poverty cannot be eliminated without development. He said that infrastructure development, providing potable drinking water to every household will be the priority.
