New Delhi, Sept 26: Ahead of the Congress presidential elections, in which Ashok Gehlot is the front-runner, a crisis is developing in Rajasthan as over 82 Rajasthan Congress MLAs loyal to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot  submitted their resignation on Sunday.

The issue has been brought on by rumours that the Congress leadership wants Sachin Pilot, the deputy chief minister, to succeed Ashok Gehlot as chief minister of Rajasthan.

The MLAs declared that they preferred Gehlot as Chief Minister over his choice. Additionally, they stated that the incoming chief minister had to have backed the administration during challenger Sachin Pilot’s uprising against Gehlot in 2020.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi despatched two central leaders to Jaipur to speak to the MLAs one-on-one in order to quell the tension.

Although the Rajasthan MLAs who threatened to resign yesterday are not against meeting observers, they are not going to meet today because many MLAs have already left for their respective homes in anticipation of the Navratra festival, Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas said today.

Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge, two senior Congress figures, are also arriving back in Delhi today. They travelled to Jaipur in order to break the deadlock after more than 90 MLAs who support Gehlot threatened to resign if his bitter opponent Sachin Pilot were given the position of Chief Minister.
