Ranchi, June 3: BJP candidate Aditya Sahu and JMM candidate Mahua Maji have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand.
The secretary-in-charge of the assembly and the returning officer, Javed Haider, announced the unopposed election of both the candidates and gave a certificate of victory today after the deadline ended at 3pm for withdrawal of nomination.
With the nomination of only two candidates for two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand, the victory of both the candidates was ensured.
This is for the fourth time that the candidates were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand
For the first time in the state, elections were held unopposed in 2004. BJP’s Yashwant Sinha and JMM’s Stephen Marandi were elected unopposed for the first time.
For the second time in 2006, Congress candidate Mabel Rebello and BJP’s candidate SS Ahluwalia were elected unopposed and reached the Rajya Sabha. In 2014, independent candidate Parimal Nathwani and RJD’s Premchand Gupta were elected unopposed. Aditya Sahu and Mahua Maji were elected unopposed for the fourth time.
After being elected to the Rajya Sabha, BJP candidate Aditya Sahu expressed his gratitude to BJP leaders, including Narendra Modi and JP Nadda. He said that the BJP is the only party in the country where a common worker gets the privilege of reaching the Rajya Sabha. Getting emotional after getting the certificate of victory, Aditya Sahu said that even in his dream he did not think that the party would give him such a big honour.
JMM candidate Mahua Maji expressed the same feeling. She expressed her gratitude toward the leaders of JMM and UPA including Shibu Soren and Hemant Soren. She said that in 22 years no party had worked in the direction of sending local women power from Jharkhand to the upper house of the country. Once a woman from the Congress party was sent to the Rajya Sabha, but she was not local. She said it is only Guruji and Hemant Soren who understand the pain of the locals of Jharkhand.
