Ramgarh, Aug 12: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge III Sanjay Pratap on Thursday sentenced the convict of an attempt to rape case of Barkakana OP under four different sections.

The court has sentenced the convict Dadan Mian to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for the attempt to rape. The amount of fine deposited on behalf of the guilty will be given to the victim.

Under the 16/18 and 10 POCSO Act, 6-6 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5-5 thousand have been imposed. In both, for non-payment of the fine amount, additional simple imprisonment of 6-6 months has been mentioned.

Before sentencing, the court convicted Dadan after hearing the testimony of all eight witnesses including Investigating Officer Ramakant Singh and the arguments presented by Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla.

The incident dates back to Nov 10, 2018, when Dadan entered the victim’s house on the pretext of smearing cotton. On seeing the girl alone on the terrace, he tried to rape her. At that time, the child was only five years old. When she started crying, Dadan ran away.

Later, a case was registered against the guilty in Barkakana OP.
