MANOJ SINHA
Ramgarh, Nov 23: A man named Sanjay Ram, who worked as a sweeper, was sentenced to five years in jail in a case of sexual assault attempt on a female doctor working in the CCL Hospital Naisarai, Ramgarh.
The court of ADJ First Sheshnath Singh sentenced the accused sweeper after convicting him under section 376 of the IPC and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict has been asked to undergo simple imprisonment for an additional 4 months.
Before sentencing, the court heard the testimony of 10 witnesses including the investigating officer Sakuntala Nag and the arguments presented by the public prosecutor in charge RB Rai.
The incident took place on July 31, 2015, when the female doctor went to CCL Hospital Naisarai on emergency duty at 6 am. Later at 8:30 am, she went to the adjacent bathroom and on returning, she found that the door was open and lights were switched off. Before she could understand anything, the accused grabbed the doctor and threw her on the bed. She somehow managed to escape and raised an alarm due to which the personnel working in the adjacent ward reached there and helped the doctor.
The doctor then lodged a written complaint against the accused at the Ramgarh police station on the same day.
