Dhanbad, Nov 23: 60 per cent of MBBS seats of central government quota remained vacant in Dhanbad, Dumka and Hazaribagh medical colleges of state after the 2nd round of admission of 2022-23 academic sessions which concluded on Tuesday evening. Now, 2nd round of admission for state quota would start in medical colleges of Jharkhand.
At Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh, only 6 out of 15 reserved seats were filled in the 2nd round admission for central quota which started on November 15 and concluded on November 22.
Dr SK Singh, the principal of the college, said that nine MBBS seats are still vacant and would be filled up in the next round. “However, two reserved seats for central government nominees have been filled up,” added Dr Singh, who is also the director of medical education of the state health department. He said a total of 73 out of 100 MBBS seats in the institution have been filled so far in the 2022-23 academic session.
At Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka, only six students out of 15 of the central quota were admitted in the second round. Principal Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary said besides this, one student of the central nominee also took admission. Two seats are reserved for the central nominee in college.
“Now we are waiting for admission of state quota in the second round for which date has yet to be announced,” said Dr Arun.
Meanwhile, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad has permission for 50 MBBS seats out of which, 7 are reserved for the central government quota and two for central nominees. Admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar said that 4 students were admitted out of the 7 seats. Three are still vacant.
One nominee of the central government (Meghalaya) also took admission at SNMMCH. “We are hopeful that all central government quota and nominee seats will be filled in the mop-up round,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.
