Islamabad, Dec 21: Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, was fired from his position on Wednesday. The PCB’s action came the day after Pakistan lost an embarrassing 3-0 Test series at home.

After assuming the position in September 2021, Ramiz Raja handled the PCB’s operations during two T20 World Cups and a 50-over Women’s World Cup.

According to sources, Najam Sethi’s appointment as the new chairman of the PCB was approved by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif, who also serves as the board’s patron. According to the Board’s constitution, the prime minister proposes candidates for the position of chairman, and the board of governors elects one of them.

Notably, Najam Sethi has administrative experience. According to the news agency PTI, the 74-year-old gave up his position as PCB chairman after Imran Khan was chosen as Pakistan’s Prime Minister in 2018 because of historical disputes with the former captain.

Over the past few days, there has been widespread speculation that Ramiz Raja’s critics within the PCB are trying to have him ousted from the organization’s top position. As Pakistan lost four straight tests and failed to win a single test at home in their most recent two series against Australia and England, questions were raised about Raja’s leadership.

As the docile tracks were criticised by the majority of Pakistan’s cricket community, Raja’s defence of the surfaces used for the home series raised some questions.
