Ranchi, Nov.17: Samri Lal’s ancestors came to Jharkhand from Rajasthan during the British era and they were brought by the Britishers.

The statement came during the examination of a witness, Sajna Ram, in a case before the Jharkhand High Court challenging the SC status of the BJP MLA from the Kanke assembly constituency, Samri Lal.

When asked the witness to produce any document supporting his statement, he expressed his inability to do so.

Notably, former Kanke MLA Suresh Baitha had filed a petition saying Lal is not eligible to contest election from Kanke, a constituency reserved for SC, as he is from Rajasthan and have no SC of other state are treated as general in Jharkhand and thus his membership from Jharkhand Assembly be cancelled.

However, Lal challenges the petition saying he is a born Jharkhandi and had earlier contested many elections as SC from the same constituency and the matter was raised for the first time. He is producing witnesses to support his claim.
