Ranchi, July 21: The CBI has taken over the investigation of Binay Kumar Mahto (12) murder case who had been murdered on the campus of his school, Sapphire International School, on the intervening night of February 5, 2016.

The CBI on Wednesday lodged an FIR at the ACB branch in Ranchi and directed its DSP Sudhanshu Shekhar to investigate this case.

Notably, on July 7, the court of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi ordered a CBI inquiry into this murder case and asked the agency to complete the investigation in the next eight months.

Manbahal Mahto, father of the deceased boy, had filed a petition in the High court in 2018 as he was dissatisfied with the police investigation.

Ranchi Police arrested Nazia Hussain who was the teacher of Hindi at this school. Besides, the police arrested her husband Arif Ali Ansari and their two teenage children on the charge of murder.  The police said that it was a case of revenge murder stating that Binay had a crush on the daughter of Nazia Hussain and Arif Ali who was a Class VI student. But their minor children were discharged as police could not prove allegations against them. Police carried out a flawed investigation and moreover, the victim’s parents were not convinced by the police theory.

“The original FIR lodged at the Dhurwa police station has been reproduced in the CBI FIR and now the investigation will be taken forward. The CBI has taken up this case for investigation based on the order passed by the High court in Criminal Writ Petition 73/2018. Currently, this case has been taken under sections 34 and 302 of IPC,” said a CBI official.
