Ranchi: CIP commemorates World Tobacco Day with events for patients and officials

Ranchi, May 31: The Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi in association with the CIP Alumni Association and IPS Jharkhand State Branch commemorated the ‘World No Tobacco Day’ by organising two awareness programmes on harm due to tobacco use and its management.

One of these was organised for the patients in OPD and their caregivers, while the second one was for the employees of the organisation.

The awareness programme for the patients and their caregivers began with Dr Basudeb Das, Director of the Institute and Dr Sanjay Kumar Munda (I/C Center for Addiction Psychiatry) addressing the theme of World No Tobacco Day this year, ‘Tobacco: Threat to our Environment’ and explaining the effect and role of tobacco in everyday life.

An awareness talk was delivered by Dr Saurav Khanra, Associate Professor (CIP) on ‘The Side Effects and Treatment of Tobacco’ for the patients and caregivers. The programme addressed the effects of tobacco on patients and caregivers and its impact on our environment.

Meanwhile, the programme for CIP officials began with CIP Director Basudeb Das explaining the theme of this year’s World No Tobacco Day.

Dr Sanjay Munda gave a similar speech on ‘Side-effects and Treatment of Tobacco’. After the programme was concluded, the caregivers and patients shared their experiences and the block office staff also gave their input regarding experiences and doubts.
