Ranchi, June 24: Sikandar Ansari was given a life sentence by a city court for killing his wife by strangulation.
The decision was made following a court trial that lasted four and a half years. Up to 10 witnesses for the prosecution were cross-examined by the court during the trial. In the case, there was no defence witness.
The case began on December 6, 2017, a day after Sikandar killed his wife Farhat Anjum alias Ruhi Parveen and notified his older brother Jahangir Ansari of the wrongdoing, expressing regret. An FIR was then filed at the Kanke police station.
Sikandar was apprehended by Jaganhir, who also alerted the locals to safeguard the safety of Sikander’s two children from his 2005 marriage to Anjum.
Jamil Ansari, the deceased’s brother, who had arrived in Kanke after learning of the incident, provided the information for the FIR. Jamil, a Nayasari resident, claimed in the FIR that Sikandar mistreated his sister after they were married and was ultimately killed. Sikandar, who had already been captured by Jahangir with the aid of villagers, was taken into custody by the police.
