Ranchi, April 19: More than 48 hours after the murder of a land dealer Rinku Khan, police in the Jharhand capital is not in a position to give any conclusive statement on the matter.
S.P.(city) Anshuman Kumar admitted the situation when contacted to know regarding the status of the probe in the matter which rocked the city on Sunday.
“Not in a position to tell anything. Will let you know when things become clear,” S.P.(city) Kumar said.
Sources, however, named land broker Murshid Khan committed the murder following a dispute over a payment of Rs 45 lakh.
“Murshid called Rinku at his home in the evening. Both had iftar together. After Rinku returned, Murshid deputed the shooter, Bablu Rider, behind him. Rider shot Rinku dead and escaped. As Murshid got information regarding the murder, he switched off his mobile phone and attempted to leave Ranchi but was nabbed,” a person close to a police official involved in the investigation said.
Asked what prompted Murshid to take this step, the person said: “Murshid, who was close to an IPS officer posted in Ranchi, had spent Rs 60 lakh of Rinku to purchase a plot but later he planned not to return it. A week ago Rinku caught him by his collar demanding his money. This compelled Murshid to hatch a murder conspiracy. Police have detained all involved in the crime and recovered the firearm used in the crime.”
On Sunday evening, Rinku, whose wife is a ward councilor, was shot dead. Bike-borne miscreants fired five bullets on him when he was returning from the residence of Khurshid.
Another source supported the fact saying the plot which brought such a situation is near Ranchi Lake and its area is 6 Katha. “Amount involved in the dispute is Rs 45 lakh,” a person close to Rinku said. Rinku’s wife echoes the same.
