Ranchi, Oct. 26: An army Colonel and his son, who had come home for a holiday, were beaten up by the owner and staff of firecracker shop Trade Friend on Kanke Road under the Gonda police station area on Diwali.
The incident took place after the colonel demanded a GST bill after buying firecrackers. It is alleged that around 15-20 staff on the behest of shop owner Vimal Singhania made an attack and used sticks and rods to beat the Colonel and his son.
In the attack, the Colonel’s son got injured and his glasses broke. He also received serious injuries on his ear which caused hearing loss. In the fight, the father and son fell unconscious.
An FIR has been registered at Gonda police station on the statement of Colonel’s son Ishaan Singh regarding the matter.
Officer-in-charge of Gonda police station, Ravi Thakur, confirmed the incident saying “it was minor”. Asked further, he expressed his inability to share details saying ‘probe is on.’
SP (city) Anshuman Kumar said that prima facie, the allegation levelled by Singh appears to be true.
“Colonel Saheb has really sustained injury. He has injuries to his head. We have registered an FIR and started a further probe into the matter,” Kumar said.
Singhania could not be contacted for his comment. A shop staff rubbished the allegation saying it was Colonel and his son who misbehaved with shop staff Rajendra Munda, who has also registered a counter case in this connection.
“According to Munda, the Colonel was demanding a discount after buying the cracker. When he was refused a discount, he used abusive language and started beating. He also used caste-indicative abuses,” a staff member, who did not want to be identified, said.
