Ranchi, Oct.19: Police in the Jharkhand capital is passing through a tough phase as it apart from handling cases of general crimes is also taking care of those attempting to topple the Hemant Soren government by purchasing MLAs.
Since July 22, the police received two complaints from two ruling party MLAs informing them about MLA purchase attempts to topple the Soren government.
The first complaint was received by police at Kotwali police station. Bermo MLA and a Congress party leader Kumar Jaimangal alias Anup Singh had filed this. Following the complaint, police had arrested three, including Abhishek Dubey, and Amit Singh besides a vegetable vendor from Bokaro, Niwaran Prasad Mahto from a city hotel and recovered Rs 2 lakh cash from them on July 24. Sadar Dy S.P Prabhat Ranjan Barwar is probing the case.
The second complaint was received at the Dhurwa police station. Ghatshila MLA and a JMM leader Ramdas Soren had filed it on October 12. The former treasurer of JMM, Ravi Kejriwal and his aide Ashok Kumar have been named in the FIR. Hatia ASP Vineet Kumar is investigating the matter. So far no one has been arrested in this case.
A police official informed about the tough phase saying handling cases of toppling the government is a little bit difficult as a lot of politics remain involved in this. “Collecting evidence and corroborating with the allegations levelled in the FIR becomes difficult. This is the reason it becomes difficult to file a charge sheet in the case. The Kotwali case charge sheet has not been filed so far,” the police official said.
Senior superintendent of police S.K.Jha, ASP Hatia, Vineet Kumar, Kotwali officer-in-charge Shailesh Kumar could not be available for their comments on the matter despite repeated calls. Dy S.P (Sadar) Barwar admitted the problem partially saying ‘after the arrest of three in Kotwali case no development has taken place in the case.’
