Ranchi, Oct.10: The police recovered the body of a 13-year-old boy from a small pond on Monday in Kantu Lahna, a village about 25 km from the district headquarters under the Ratu police station area of Ranchi district.

The boy was identified as Yatharth Kumar, who is the only son of Ranjeet Ram, a resident of Barka Toli, and a class VI student in a local school. He had been missing since Oct 8 evening.

A local resident confirmed the recovery saying it was getting to 4 pm when the body was recovered after a villager noticed a body floating in the pond.

“The boy had injuries above the left eye. The lips were also cut. It appears that someone pushed him to the pond and escaped,” the resident.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police station Abhash Kumar confirmed the recovery saying it will be too early to give any conclusive statement on the matter.

“It is difficult to say anything about the reason behind the death without a proper probe. It is required to be probed whether he drowned while taking bath or some other way,” OC Kumar said while proceeding towards the place of occurrence after getting information.
