Ranchi, May 31: There are at least two phone numbers listed on the internet for passengers to call at Ranchi Railway station, but neither of them works. This presents major problems for travellers who must travel to the station to acquire real-time train information.
When dialling these internet-based helpline numbers, the call is either not acknowledged or the caller hears a beep sound. Many helpline centres have been built up at Ranchi Junction for the convenience of travellers, but the phones that have been installed are useless. If a customer contacts these numbers for information about the train from a remote location, he will be disappointed.
Abhishek Kumar, who was travelling to New Delhi, expressed his disappointment in not being able to obtain information on the railways’ helpline number. These numbers were announced by railways for the convenience of passengers, but they do not work.
“Not being able to get information from the helpline number is quite inconvenient. Railways should activate these numbers as soon as possible or delete them from Google,” Abhishek added.
“In case of any kind of query relating to trains, one has to come to the station to get it explained as one cannot rely on the railway inquiry numbers listed on the internet,” remarked another passenger, Pramod Singh.
Railway officials, however, denied the claim, claiming that only one phone number is working and that the others listed on the internet are wrong, and that the website where the numbers are listed is not the official website of the railways.
“The phone number 2461616 is operational, and various passenger inquiries are being responded on it,” a rail official stated.
